What’s a Georgia Barnacle?
Former Governor Zell Miller once described the employees of the State of Georgia as, “Barnacles on the Hull of the Ship of State.” As you can imagine this made him extremely popular with “his” employees!
Beginning with Miller’s administration and continuing to this day the rank and file employees who actually do the work that makes Georgia run have been the object of public and political ridicule and scorn. With Miller’s elimination of the State Civil Service in 1996 they have ever since had a diminishing voice in state government.
This web site is an attempt to give back a voice to those “barnacles” who do the thousands of jobs that it takes to provide the services that the citizens of Georgia need, expect and deserve.
